The Productive City, Papaverdriehoek, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
for UNLAB, Europan 14 Competition, 2017
Shortlisted
The project aims to stimulate existing qualities in this neighborhood in the North of Amsterdam by proposing simple actions and integrating them with a strategic enriched program, to attract new users on working and living. Papaverdriehoek is seen as part of a system, in which the water becomes a central square. A bike line circumnavigating it, unifies the different neighborhoods and creates in its trace different small public spaces. Buildings are defined in the masterplan, but owners and inhabitants have the freedom to build and their future houses and workplaces. The Dutch block typology allows multiple spaces, public and communal to provide a better living and working environment and also strengthening local identity. Public spaces and buildings will act as a machine, an infrastructure to support the flow of natural resources, organic waste and recycling materials.
